Japanese conductor Hideaki Matsumura won the third prize at the 11th international competition for orchestra conductors “Antonio Pedrotti”.

Matsumura was born in 1980 in Japan. He was only three when he started learning the piano from Yukie Baba. Later he learned to play the clarinet from Seiki Shinohe. While he studied political science at the Keio University, he learned conducting at the Conducting Research Institute of the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music from Kazuyoshi Akiyama, Yoshinori Kawachi and Nobutaka Masui. He was also mentored by Myung-Whun Chung, and took private lessons from Yuji Yuasa.

Matsumura participated in the Affinis Music Festival (2006-2008) as a trainee conductor, passed the audition, and conducted in concerts. In 2010 he passed the audition of the Nippon Steel Arts Foundation, which gave him an opportunity to work as an assistant conductor for the Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo. Now he serves as a lecturer at the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music.

Matsumura has worked with many Japanese major professional orchestras, such as the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Gunma Symphony Orchestra, Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, Kyushu Symphony Orchestra and Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra. With the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, he participated in the workshop of Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan 90 times as a conductor and a pianist, and he also served as the conductor of the Family Orchestra (as an assistant of Myung-Whun Chung). He also took part in the regular concerts of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra several times as an assistant of Tatsuya Shimono.

In November 2012, Matsumura is invited to conduct Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento, and made his debut in Europe.
